Look out guys another male dominated event has taken a set back after Danica Patrick's performance in the Indy 500 this past Sunday. Not only did she compete well but was there at the end with a good chance to win the race. Sure sure I know what you're thinking there has been women in the Indy 500 before, but until Danica came along this year none had ever lead the race let alone had a chance to win it.
In fact seeing and hearing about her is the reason I watched the race. I saw the picture of a pretty girl and the hype that went with it. I wanted to know if she was just a pretty face someone wanted to put in a race car or if she really had what it took. It didn't take but a few laps into the race to see that she wasn't just a pretty face in a race car but rather she was the real deal. She not only could handle that car at 200 plus miles per hour but that she could do it as well or better then most of the veteran male drivers. As far as I can see it won't be long before she is not only driving well in races but winning them. That's it for now. Later.
I hope everyone has had a nice holiday weekend. Well for those of us for whom it was a holiday that is. For me it was a typical Memorial Day weekend, you know, family, BBQ and a trip to the cemetery.
I am happy to say I now have wheels again. My brother came over Saturday and helped me get my car running again. Luckily we did not have to change the starter or we'd probably still be working on it. The damned thing is not in the most reachable of places. I swear these car makers now a days do this shit on purpose, just so you have to take it in to the dealer to get it worked on. Anyway I'm just glad not to be having to take those expensive cabs to work anymore.
Now it's time to get ready to go back to work tomorrow. I can just imagine how much fun it will be getting up in the morning after four days off. Oh well, the price we pay for a long weekend I suppose. I as well as everyone else will get through it. That's it for now. Later.
Sorry I haven't been around to post much lately. It just seemed like everytime I turned around something else was happening requiring my attention. And I must admit for a while there I wasn't dealing with this very well. It wasn't until I remembered the age old saying of shit happens that I was able to gain a better perspective on the things going on around me. Funny thing is I used to be the laid back guy who was always telling others not to be so upset when things happen we have no control over. And it's true shit happens and it's more then likely there wasn't a thing we could have done to prevent it from happening. In my case none of these things were anything major, it just seemed they were happening on a regular basis.
Ok, so what were these things I was dealing with, I'm sure enquiring minds want to know...Right? Well, in a short span of time my paycheck gets lost and is almost a week late when it gets to me. My only form of communications, my cell phone, quit working and it was taking the company forever to get me a new phone. And finally last Sunday I was going to go out and grab a bite to eat, but when I put the key in the car's ignition and turned it it wouldn't start. In fact it didn't do a thing. As you can see none of these things is what you might consider major downfalls. However, as I found out, if enough small things land on your shoulders you soon start to bend. Thankfully I didn't let it get me to the breaking stage.
Now all that's left to do is try and fix my car before I go broke taking a cab to work. This ought to be fun since I am not mechanically inclined in the least. So wish me luck as I go out and try to change the starter on my car. That is if that's what is wrong with it.
I hope you all have a good weekend, and for those whom it applies have a great Memorial Day holiday. That's it for now. Later.
Real quick update to let you all know I'm still around. Just haven't had much time to properly update. I'm still dealing with some issues, but have developed a more positive perspective on things. More meaningful update coming soon, thanks for bearing with me. That's it for now. Later.
This week wasn't all that bad but I for one am ready for the weekend, especially after yesterday. Not that yesterday was all that bad, just a little hectic. My boss was gone and it was one of those kinds of days where everyone and everything wanted attention all at the same time. For example the electricians wanted help pulling wire, the plumbers needed a pipe held, the concrete guy needed water along with various other things I needed to keep my eyes on. It was almost enough to get me walking down the hallway humming the lyrics to my new theme song "they're coming to take me away ha ha, they're coming to take me away ho ho. To the funny farm." Now I see why it is my boss appears to want to pull all his hair out whenever I see him. I finally settled down and just took these requests one at a time and decided if they didn't like the order I choose they could just go and complain to my boss all they wanted. Oh wait, he wasn't there hehe. Anyway I made it through the day with most of my sanity intact. But still I'm ready for a little R&R this weekend. Now all I got to do is decide what I want to do. Hell I might just chill in the apartment all weekend who knows. So anyway to all of those who happen by here today have yourself a wonderful weekend. That's it for now. Later.
This week has been flowing by rather uneventfully so I really haven't had much to write about. Well not totally uneventful as I am still incommunicado, seems the cell phone company can't find the new phone they were supposed to express mail me. Ugh such is life. Though not much has been going on around here I have managed to get out and snap the ole shutter button. Not really some of my best work, still hope you enjoy looking at them. That's it for now. Later.
For the past couple of weeks my cell phone has been dying a sow agonizing death. First it was just static and last week it was getting to the point where I could hear who I called but they couldn't hear me. So I went to where I signed up for the plan to get it checked out and they told me I had to call customer service. Since my cell phone is my only source of communication that meant a trip to a pay phone to call them. That's not what bothered me it's that I knew I had to get past that sweet talking computerized receptionist. You know the one I'm talking about, I'm sure you've all had a chance to talk to one. Well I called this one and the first thing the voice said was say what it was I needed. Alright I thought to myself no more searching out numbers to push all I've got to do is say what I need. Turns out it wasn't so great after-all because I think I ended up with the only deaf computer there is. Here's how the conversation went:
Computer reception: What can I do for you? Me: My cell phone isn't working. Comp Recp: Did you say you had a question about your bill? Yes or no. Me: No...I have a problem with my phone. Comp Recp: Just so I have this right, did you say you wanted to start over? Yes or no. Me: No I said my cell phone isn't working!!!
This conversation went on a little longer but you get my point. Finally I got through to this machine what I needed. Then came the so we can expedite your call please answer these security questions about your account. Which I did but I don't see how this expedited anything because as soon as they transferred me to a human (finally) the first thing they did was to ask me the same exact security questions. What did they think I handed the phone off to someone else after answering the questions the first time. Go figure. Anyway after doing some quote trouble shooting they determined my phone indeed wasn't working. I guess they don't believe you when you tell them that. The new phone is in the mail and is supposed to be here tomorrow. I sure hope this one works because I really don't want to have to go through that again, once is more then enough.
Aside from that the weekend wasn't all that bad. Took a little road trip, ended up at a casino. But we'll save that story for another time. That's it for now. Later.
So here's the conclusion to the amazing game of hide and seek with my paycheck from last week. The game finally ended yesterday when my check FINALLY showed up in the mail. Now I am one who appreciates a good game, but this is one game I'd just as soon not ever play again.
Every now and then we all run across someone who makes really wonder about people. I know of such a person out at work, and here's an example. Yesterday this foreman comes up and asks me where my boss had been hiding out lately. He also said my boss used to always come up on the floor to check on the progress of the work, but lately he hasn't been around much. So I answered him saying that every time I had been to the office trailer my boss has been swamped with paperwork. This foreman turned to walk away and threw over his shoulder a sarcastic YEAH...RIGHT. I remember thinking at the moment you fool if you weren't going to believe what I told ya why the hell did you waste my time and yours asking me. I tell you sometimes I just don't understand certain people.
Tomorrow starts another weekend so it's time to do some planning. Because weather permitting I don't intend to spend it cooped up in this apartment. Have a good weekend all. That's it for now. Later.
As you can probably tell by the title yes I'm still playing hide and seek with my paycheck from last week. I called the office yesterday and the girl I talked to assured me that she had personally put the checks in the mail herself. Therefore she said that since she had mailed them it must be what she called a postal error and that I should go question the folks at the post office. Anyway long story short, a few hours and a couple of trips to the post office I receive a call from the same young lady from the office. Guess what she says, we found your check. Seems they were put in the invoice bag and not the mail bag and weren't mailed after-all. She said I could drive to Manhattan and pick it up or she could drop it in the mail and I should get it tomorrow. Well its tomorrow and guess what, yep NO check in the mailbox. No I'm not stressing out about this turn of events, at least not yet. I'll wait and see if it shows up tomorrow (there's that word again)before I hit the phones again. Oh well I guess that's one way to save money, I just glad I didn't need it this week to pay any big bills.
I've been trying to improve my nighttime picture taking. How am I doing? That's it for now. Later.
I'm sitting here listening to the thunder rumble and the raindrops hit the window. What a fitting ending to a rather screwed up weekend. Most the plans I made, the things I wanted to do had to be changed all because of one event or lack there of. What could have happened or in this case not happened to be so upsetting? I'll tell you what, when I went to check my mail Friday my paycheck wasn't there. That wasn't so bad because they sometimes run a day late. However when I went and checked and it wasn't there on Saturday I became rather concerned, no wait, pissed and upset. When you live paycheck to paycheck, as I am right now, it's more then a little upsetting when it doesn't show up. And since the office is closed on Saturday I couldn't call and inquire about it. You can bet your ass I'll be on the phone first thing Monday though.
The weekend wasn't a total waste, I wouldn't let it. That is after I realized it was not going to be good for me health wise to sit and stress over something I couldn't do anything about until Monday. So I climbed in the car and went over to Manhattan to watch the K-State baseball game. And today I just chilled in my apartment watching TV. Hell, I even watched the Kansas City Royals actually win a game. Last night I took a late night walk through the park where I snapped the two pic's below. There you have an idea of what my weekend was like, sure hope yours was better. Never thought I'd ever say this but I'm glad this weekend is about over. That's it for now. Later.
OK here's something for you to ponder. We've all heard the old saying of if only I could back in time knowing what I know now and start over again. Perhaps you've even thought it yourself, I know I have. Question here is would you do it? I think I would. Now let's make it a little tougher, you are once again given a chance to go back in time and do it all over again only this time not knowing what you know now. Would you take the chance?!?!
It's time now to get ready and get this weekend started. First up for me is to go to the T-Mobile store and find out why my cell phone has turned into a hand held mass of static. Anyway time to run, you all have a fantastic weekend!! That's it for now. Later.
Damned but where did this week go?? Seems like I closed my eyes for a couple of seconds, no really just a couple of seconds, and the next thing I know the we're at the end of the week. Not that I'm complaining mind ya I'm always ready for the weekend to roll around. Actually it's been a good week, maybe that's why it seemed to fly by. Hell, I couldn't even find anything wrong with this past Monday, and that's a rare event. As well as the week went it ended even better. At least I think that's what you would call it when you only work eight hours but still get paid for ten. What happened today was for one reason or another damn near all of our workers weren't at work today. As for me I loved it, I was able to get things done without having a lot of other people in the way. Anyway I ran into my boss at three thirty and he said let's pack it in and he'd see me Monday. And though we cut this last day of the week two hours short, he still paid me for a full forty hour week. In case I haven't said it before I've got a great boss.
I'm off to do some blog hopping before I hit the hay. That's it for now. Later.
Do you believe you receive signs that you have reached THAT time of your life. What's that you ask... What is THAT time of life. Come on now, do I really need to say it. OK ok, you know...over the hill, the twilight years. What, still no clue? Alright getting old, there I said it. If there are said signs then I received one last Saturday in the mail. It was a letter from AARP (that's American Association of Retired People for those of you to young to know) wanting to know why, since I qualify, I haven't joined yet. Why indeed. Could be I just don't feel as though I'm old enough to belong to a senior organization. Another thing is there is that word retired in their title. One thing is for sure I am not retired, in fact the way things have been going lately I doubt I ever will. My first instinct upon reading this letter was to trash it as fast as I can. But wait, maybe I will join. Even though yes I am still young at heart, why turn down all those wonderful discounts I could get should the opportunity to travel ever arise again.
Ok that's it for now. Besides this post has taken me over an hour to write since I did it during the commercials while watching House on TV which by the way was a good one again this week. Later.
Things are not only taking shape at work but taking on color as well.
Jumped in the car Saturday afternoon and went driving, no particular destination in mind, just went driving. It's a nice relaxing way to kill a couple of hours actually. Although I can't do that to often with the gas prices being the way they are.
As you can see, get just outside the city limits here and there are plenty of wide open spaces to roam.
Also stumbled onto what appeared to be the great automobile final resting place.
There you have it, the highlight of my weekend, well except for my trip to the grocery store and Laundromat. Now it's time to get things ready for the work week ahead. Happy Monday all!! That's it for now. Later
